Deadlines Are Approaching People!

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”-Maria Robinson

So,

I’m almost done with everything for grad school. the only thing I have left to do is take the GRE and mail off everything.

And also pray.

A lot.

Apart from grad school I’m also applying for other internships (paid) and study abroad fellowships. I know that I’ve talked about this before (on many occasions) but it’s all I can seem to think about. As I embark on this new chapter in my life I can’t help but wonder and think If Columbus felt this way before discovering a new land. If he was excited on a new voyage, or kept talking himself out of it before forcing himself to go. Or if he was just an adrenaline junkie, and fearless.

Just a thought.

Reaching A Deal-ish…

The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the doctor says, “It’s a girl.”  ~Shirley Chisholm

It seems as if in society women are being subjected to what men think. Either they are too emotional, unstable, or needy and are co-dependent on men. If women are independent or don’t need any men then they are seen as lesbian or too butch to get anything done. What bothers me, especially in the different text women who are in love or want to hold out for true love, they are seen as too romantic and live in a dream world. It makes me sick and above all disappointed. Would you like to know why?

For the past weeks in October, the government has been shut down because one side (Republicans) believed that the president and Democrats were destroying our constitution. I saw one of those e-cards (You know the ones where people write funny messages on funny looking cards) and it said, “Next time you accuse a woman of overreacting remember that a bunch of men shut down the government because they weren’t getting their way.” I thought the e-card was hilarious and reposted it on my face book page. Man, all the backlash that followed. Nicole how can you post that? That’s wrong. Women are in government too! I think this government has made people lose their form of amusement. Laugh a little. They are trying to make light a serious situation and I think it was a clever card. And I actually agreed with the card. They call women hormonal? And don’t get me started on being a feminist. Anyways, I’m glad that the government reached some semblance of agreement and I hope that it helps some people.

Ohhhh I Love Me A Good Scandal….

So,

Scandal’s new episode premieres tonight.

And I’m losing my mind. Would you like to know why?

Well for one, I love the scandal fans. They are creative and have an imagination that can rival any other real fiction writer. Apart from that they offer and bring an excitement to television that has been missing for a long time. People never really get excited about television anymore and it’s sad because there are some really creative plots going on lately. Watching Scandal makes me excited as a public relations person (not because of the presidential affair) because it makes me want to create or be apart of something that makes people crave to know what exactly is happening and what we can expect from a person or event. Bringing excitement to a business known to excite others can be difficult; however I am willing to don my gladiator suit and put back on the white hat.

Boom Pow WOW!!

“Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all is a form of planning.”
― Gloria Steinem

Hello all!

So guess what? I’m looking for a job in PR!!!

Exciting right?

Right.

I’ve talked with some people and when I talk with them about finding a job and moving on to the next part of their lives, they don’t seem as excited. The reactions ranged from terrified to doubtful. I mean don’t get me wrong; I’m very nervous about life post college. I want to attend grad school, but I want to work in the field of public relations. I think that finding the job can be scary because every topic you’ve learned in your major will be tested out in the real world. But that’s the fun part, showing the knowledge you’ve learned and how you interpreted it. I’ve applied to BOOM Marketing in San Diego. I want to work there and I think that any entry level position in public relations is a start in the right direction, and plus it’s in San Diego! Wish me luck bloggers! Wish me luck

Where Do I Begin

I am never going to have anything more to do with politics or politicians. When this war is over I shall confine myself entirely to writing and painting.” –Winston Churchill

I was on the bus yesterday evening leaving my internship when I saw a sight that would make any person cry. There was a little boy who was all of six years old clutching what looked like to be his grandmother. The boy looked not only tired, and dirty. (both of them both looked like they needed a shower) The boy kept saying how hungry he was. The grandmother looked as if she would cry and was trying to calm him down. She kept telling him to try close his eyes. he looked up and said, “And when we get there will I get to eat something?” At this point the woman looked as if she would break down when she told him, “I don’t know.”

At the news station yesterday all anyone could talk about on the different outlets was how the house republicans were not passing the ObamaCare bill and how the president himself wouldn’t compromise because he’s already negotiated enough on everything else. If both parties fail to agree on something soon, the U.S. is looking at a government shutdown.

This makes me sick.

We have so many issues in our own country that we need to fix. Apart from health care, there is child hood obesity, making sure  families are not thrown out of their own homes, Keeping up literacy, and mathematic rates in all schools (especially with minority children) Allowing young adults to afford college; I could go on but do you see the point i’m trying to make? We have serious issues in our own country and we need to come together as a nation and try fixing these dilemmas. Whether you’re a democrat, republican, libertarian, independent; These are problems affecting us all and we need to stand united. Call me optimistic but I think that working together for the common good would be a nice change instead of refusing to work with one group of people because of their political standing. I asked my dad what he thought of all the craziness going on in Washington and do you know what he said? “Nikki, I stopped listening to and agreeing with politics a long time ago. We have so many issues  and all politicians do is talk about the problems. They never try to solve it.” Some may not agree with what my dad says, but I’m going to have to take his stance on this one.
